Join the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra for the 2008-09 Family Series — Stories Through Music. Everyone can enjoy the powerful ways in which music tells or enhances stories. The NJSO and conductor Jeff Grogan present three special afternoon concerts, the young and young at heart can discover orchestral music as a storyteller and re-experience some familiar works in a new light.

Let the Orchestra introduce you to all the different instrument families of a symphony orchestra. The NJSO tells stories and shows emotions through music, including Benjamin Britten’s delightful Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra and Gioacchino Rossini’s famous Overture from William Tell. The Greater Newark Youth Orchestra (GNYO) performs side-by-side with the NJSO in selected pieces.
Join the NJSO in an exciting musical safari. Saint-Saëns’s Carnival of the Animals — a musical trip through the animal kingdom that includes the beloved cello reflection “The Swan.” Find out how the Orchestra can make lions, elephants, tortoises and more come to life. Can you guess all the animals as you hear them?
Journey to a faraway land with Rimsky-Korsakov’s magical Scheherazade. Hear the composer’s interpretation of some of the most famous stories from One Thousand and One Nights and discover the Arabian tales for yourself! Using masks, puppets and magic, the Enchantment Theatre Company will bring these stories to life.
