TONI LORRAINE THOMPSON
A native of Missouri, violist Toni Lorraine Thompson attended the University of Kansas, where she studied viola with Karel Blaas. At age nineteen, she began her professional career as a violist with the Kansas City (MO) Philarmonic. In 1972, she moved to Minneapolis. There she studied with Clyn Dee Barrus, principal violist of the Minnesota Orchestra, and played frequently with the Minnesota Orchestra. She also belonged to the orchestras of the Minnesota Opera Company (Saint Paul), and the Bach Society.

Toni has lived in Teaneck, New Jersey, since joining the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra in 1979. In addition to her Symphony work, she maintains an active freelance career in the New York metropolitan area, as well as a busy private teaching schedule. She is currently principal violist of the Saint Cecilia Orchestra (New York) and was principal violist of the Masterwork Orchestra for many years. Ms. Thompson has also performed with the New York Virtuosi, the Philharmonia Virtuosi, the Radio City Music Hall Orchestra, the Paper Mill Playhouse Orchestra, and at the Yale Summer School of Music, and the Teton Festival in Wyoming.

As a chamber musician and soloist, she frequently performs in concerts of sacred music in synagogues and churches throughout the New York/New Jersey area.

In 1985, Toni founded Classic Touch, a string ensemble that performs at weddings, parties, corporate functions and other events. She remains violist and manager.

In her spare time, she enjoys theater, museums, and traveling with her husband, Tom.
