December 31, 2009 The New York Times; "Italian Music, Beyond Opera"

The New York Times previews the NJSO's Italian Winter Festival. "'We were kind of intrigued by the idea that Italy is not exactly the sort of country you would think of as producing symphonic music,' said André Gremillet, 43, the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra’s president and chief executive officer. 'We started discussing it and realized how much was there.'"

  MUSICIAN INSIGHT
Debra Biderman, violin

Debra Biderman, an NJSO violinist since 1967, had the rare opportunity to be an audience member at this weekend’s New Brunswick performance. She spoke with NJSO Concert Coda about the experience of hearing her colleagues in concert.

"I was very impressed at how the chamber orchestra filled the hall. The strings were so smooth and silky. I’ve never been in the audience at the State Theatre before—I sat in the balcony, and I was thinking about what a rich, cohesive sound it was. The hall was wonderful.

"I knew the music, so I knew where to look when people had solos—to watch everyone I know was very exciting."
