2007-2008 MASTER TEACHERS COLLABORATIVE

THE NEW JERSEY SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA INVITES OUTSTANDING EDUCATORS TO:

• Meet and collaborate with other educators and members of the Orchestra
• Create teaching materials that integrate music with other disciplines
• See these materials published and distributed to schools statewide

WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

• Educators looking to develop music learning activities that link to and enhance relevant mathematics, science, and
   language arts
topics in the elementary and middle school curriculum

• Creative teachers who wish to contribute to producing original, inspirational teaching materials that other teachers will be
   eager and able to use
   
 
PROFESSIONAL NOTE:

The Master Teachers Collaborative fulfills 15 hours toward the state mandated Professional Development for teachers.

PROGRAM SCHEDULE

WORKSHOP I: Friday, January 25, 2008 – 9:30 am4:00 pm (NJPAC)

Introduction to Repertoire for 2008-2009 NJSO Concerts for Young People; Planning music-centered resources to be used statewide; content standards and assessment; collaborations with professional colleagues; integration with other disciplines; multiple intelligences; expectations of participants.

WORKSHOP II: Saturday, March 1, 2008– 9:30 am4:00 pm (NJSO Offices)

Works in progress; interdisciplinary activities; sharing outlines; collaborative responses; refining concepts.

WORKSHOP III: Tuesday, April 1, 2008 – 9:30 am4:00 pm (NJPAC)

Preview of final projects.
   
   
 

AWARDS CONCERT AND RECEPTION:
Friday, May 16, 2008 – 8:00 pm concert (NJPAC), Post-Concert Reception

   
   
 
 
  APPLICATION PROCEDURE:
   
 

DEADLINE FOR APPLICATIONS IS FRIDAY, DECEMBER 7, 2007.

  • A letter of recommendation must be included with the application and all supporting materials.
  • Teachers may apply individually or as a team of two; members of teams will be evaluated together.
  • Each teacher applying as part of a team must complete a full application and submit a separate set of student activities.  One member of the team should be a music specialist.  The other should be one of the following: a math specialist, a science specialist, or a general classroom teacher with a particular interest in math or science.   Each team should mail its members’ sets of materials in one package, along with all supporting materials.
  • Returning members need to submit new lesson plans which have not been used or published.
  • The NJSO reserves the right to reproduce and edit all materials created under this program for distribution to teachers, school systems, and other interested parties, as well as on our website.
