GREATER NEWARK YOUTH ORCHESTRAS |
| |
Established in 1990, the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra’s Greater Newark Youth Orchestras provide all students, and specifically minority youth, the opportunity to participate in a program that provides musical knowledge and performance experience in an encouraging and motivating atmosphere. Weekly coachings and rehearsals from members of the NJSO take place Saturday mornings during the school year and are supplemented by an optional chamber music program.
The Chamber Orchestra—a preparatory string ensemble—was added to the existing Youth Orchestra in 1999. Both orchestras allow their participants the opportunity to meet regularly with other students in productive and positive activities, and to develop skills such as discipline, interdependence and goal setting—skills that will serve them throughout their lives. The achievements of this program and its impact on the lives of these young musicians have received national recognition by the President’s Committee on the Arts and Humanities. The Youth Orchestra is directed by Jeffrey Grogan. The Chamber Orchestra is directed by Henry Kao. |

AUDITION INFORMATION |
| |
Auditions for the 2008–09 season will be held on May 31 at Rutgers University in Bradley Hall. Students who play any orchestral instrument are welcome to apply. For an application and audition requirements, please click on the link below. Applications are due by May 19th. |
