RANDALL HICKS, NJSO Principal Timpanist, joined the NJSO in 1971. He studied at Oberlin College and
the Cleveland Institute, and his principal teachers were Cloyd Duff of the Cleveland Orchestra and Salvatore
Rabbio of the Detroit Symphony. An active freelancer in New York, he has played for many Broadway shows
including A Chorus Line, The Wiz, Porgy & Bess, and Dancin' and currently plays for Jekyll and Hyde. He has
appeared with the Detroit Symphony. Hicks's jazz experience has included performances with Clark Terry,
Richard Davis, Elvis Presley, Tom Jones, Trini Lopez and Tony Bennett, among others.
