Martin Sklar

MARTIN SKLAR studied with the principal bassists of the NBC Symphony Orchestra, and the New York Philharmonic, Robert Brennand, John Schaeffer, and Philip Sklar (his Father). David Walter was also his teacher and colleague for many years.

Mr. Sklar was a member of the St. Louis and Houston Symphonies and the Houston Opera society. He played regularly with the New York City Opera, the Princeton Chamber Orchestra, the Little Orchestra Society of New York and Ars Musica. He also played with the Orquestra del Venezuela (Caracas), the Canadian Ballet, at the Jackson Hole Music and Tanglewood festivals, and with the Boston Pops.

Mr. Sklar was professor of bass violin and chamber music at the Conservatory Antonia Maria Valencia and principal bass of the Orquestra Sinfonica del Valle in Cali, Colombia, South America. He is currently adjunct professor of the double bass at Seton Hall University. Mr. Sklar, is the Music Director of "The August Symphony Orchestra", a community-based summer symphony orchestra based in Springfield, NJ.

Martin is a resident of Bloomfield, New Jersey, where he teaches privately.
