MICHAEL STEWART, violist, was the Assistant Principal violist of the NJSO from 1991-97. He has served as principal violist of the New York Chamber Orchestra, The New York Virtuosi Chamber Symphony, the Symphony Orchestra of the State of Mexico, the Wayne Chamber Orchestra, and The Westfield Symphony. He has performed as soloist with New Jersey Symphony Chamber Orchestra (Bach's Brandenburg Concerto No. 6) the New York Chamber Orchestra
(Hindemith's Der Schwanendreher) and the Westfield Symphony (Mozart's Symphonie Concertante).

Mr. Stewart's viola studies have been with Abraham Skernick, Nathan Gordon, and Jesse Levine. His chamber music coaches have included Lynn Harrell and Robert Marcellus. He has also studied conducting with James Levine.

Mr. Stewart resides in Cranford with his wife (NJSO bassist Norine Stewart) and their two children. In addition to his playing, chamber music coaching and private teaching, he coaches soccer (USSF National "C" coaching license).
