BEETHOVEN Violin Concerto
SIBELIUS Symphony No. 2

An exciting new work by Swedish composer Anders Hillborg opens this program with a Scandinavian theme. Finnish conductor Hannu Lintu leads Beethoven’s familiar and wonderfully lyrical Violin Concerto, in which the composer reveals his more sensitive side. In contrast, Sibelius’s stormy and dramatic Symphony No. 2 evokes the arctic winds, eerie lakes and shimmering twilight of the Finnish landscape.

BRAHMS Symphony No. 3

Join Maestro Järvi as our multi-season focus on Haydn’s wondrous “London” symphonies continues with Symphony No. 98—the playful and delightfully imaginative B-flat major. Then, get to know two NJSO musicians as Concertmaster Eric Wyrick performs violinist Darryl Kubian’s 3-2-1, written specifically for the NJSO. Finally, we hear how Brahms was inspired by Haydn’s genius, as his bold and bright Third Symphony pays tribute to the elegant exuberance of “Papa” Haydn.
