  JÄRVI CELEBRATES AROUND THE WORLD

The NJSO was honored to begin the world-wide festivities in May for Neeme Järvi’s 70th birthday on June 7.  To commemorate the occasion, the NJSO commissioned a work from Darryl Kubian, NJSO violinist and composer. The Maestro Waltz received its world premiere at our concerts in May, and both audiences and musicians enjoyed its charm and buoyant spirit. We also presented Maestro Järvi with a birthday cake and a souvenir book of special greetings written by over 2,000 audience members.

A gala concert in Estonia, held in the capital city of Tallinn on Saturday, May 26 with the Estonian National Symphony, was a family affair. Maestro Järvi  was joined on the conductors podium with sons Paavo and Kristjan, while daughter Maarika took a solo turn on the flute. The gala included performances by Juhan Tralla, tenor, and the Estonian National Male Choir. The program opened with Sibelius’s Finlandia, a fitting tribute to the Maestro and his family.

On his birthday, Maestro Järvi conducts a concert in Metz, France with the Residentie Orkest of The Hague, where he is Chief Conductor.  He will also be honored on June 15 with a gala concert in The Hague.
