Musicians to play free Bollywood concert in Jersey City

Apr 25, 2016

Hudson County Community College and the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra present “An Afternoon in Bollywood”—a free chamber music event at the Benjamin J. Dineen III & Dennis C. Hull Gallery in Jersey City on Friday, May 6, at 1 pm. The public event is made possible through a two-year partnership between the NJSO and PSEG Foundation to help celebrate diversity within communities and connect families with unique cultural experiences.

A five-member chamber ensemble will perform “Jai Ho” from the international smash hit Slumdog Millionaire, along with classics by Bollywood composers, including the legendary Pyarelal Sharma, who has composed music for nearly 500 films over the last 50 years. The performers include NJSO violinists Wendy Chen and Jim Tsao, violist Elzbieta Weyman, cellist Sarah Seiver and percussionist James Musto.

The event is free and open to the public; patrons should register in advance at http://afternoon-in-bollywood-at-hccc.eventbrite.com.

The concert will take place in the Dineen-Hull Gallery Foyer. The gallery is located on the sixth floor at 71 Sip Avenue in Jersey City. For more information, contact gallery@hccc.edu.
