On November 5, 2016, the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra held its fall Gala Celebration to welcome Xian Zhang. The event honored Zhang in her new role as Music Director of the NJSO, as well as featured her conducting Beethoven, Strauss and Haydn. The performance showcased the wonderful talents of NJSO Concertmaster Eric Wyrick, Principal Cello Jonathan Spitz and pianist Pedja Muzijevic.

More than 300 guests enjoyed the gala, which began with a pre-concert cocktail party in the stunning Prudential Hall Lobby of NJPAC. Guests and concertgoers were captivated as Zhang led the Orchestra in a concert program of intriguing textures, from chamber music to full symphony. Immediately following the concert, the event guests enjoyed an extraordinary dinner in the lobby, under purple and gold hues lit against the window wall, which reflected the beautiful fall night sky. Guests were also treated to a private performance during the dinner by the night’s honoree, Zhang, accompanying Spitz on Piano.

The NJSO would like to thank all of those who attended and supported the Gala Celebration to welcome Xian Zhang. Their contributions have been fundamental to the success of this fine performing organization. We are delighted to have met our fundraising goals for the event, which contributes to the NJSO’s education and community engagement  programs throughout New Jersey.
