School-Time Concerts for Young People

Field trips to a concert hall near you!

As many as 15,000 elementary- and middle-school students and teachers across the Garden State annually enjoy the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra’s Concerts for Young People (CYP). These standards-based orchestral programs are specifically designed to spark the imagination and enhance student learning. With nearly 70 years of experience creating interactive concerts for young audiences, the NJSO offers different concert programs in a number of convenient venues each season. To ensure that students get the most out of the concert, the NJSO provides a Teacher’s Resource Book, consisting of leveled pre- and post-concert activities that address the National Core Arts Standards.

2017–18 NJSO Teacher's Resource Book

To ensure that your students get the most out of the concert, you will receive a printed copy of the NJSO Teacher’s Resource Book, consisting of leveled pre- and post-concert activities that address the National Core Arts Standards. Hard copies will be mailed with order confirmations.

The 2018–19 Teacher's Resource Book will be available for download in September.

Concerts for Young People: Bravo Beethoven!

We all love Ludwig! Enjoy a full concert of Beethoven’s most wonderful pieces, including excerpts from the Fifth and Seventh symphonies and some of his most exciting overtures. But even though you think you know Beethoven—surprise! What unexpected discoveries await at this boisterous, beautiful concert?!

Concerts for Young People: The Sound of Stories

It’s a season of stories in music at the NJSO, and you get in on the fun, too! Listen in wonder as some of your favorite stories are told through music, including Tchaikovsky’s enchanted The Nutcracker and magical Swan Lake, romantic Romeo and Juliet and even the tale of your favorite boy wizard, Harry Potter!

It was wonderful seeing [our students] so happy and engaged, listening attentively to classical music . . . We look forward to returning next season!
