School-Time Concerts for Young People
Field trips to a concert hall near you!
As many as 15,000 elementary- and middle-school students and teachers across the Garden State annually enjoy the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra’s Concerts for Young People (CYP). These standards-based orchestral programs are specifically designed to spark the imagination and enhance student learning. With nearly 70 years of experience creating interactive concerts for young audiences, the NJSO offers different concert programs in a number of convenient venues each season. To ensure that students get the most out of the concert, the NJSO provides a Teacher’s Resource Book, consisting of leveled pre- and post-concert activities that address the National Core Arts Standards.
Submit your artwork!
This season, we’d like to feature your students’ artwork! We are asking students from each attending school to draw the animals portrayed in one of the pieces of music on our program.
We are accepting submissions until Tuesday, May 1.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us at [email protected] or by calling 973.735.1733
Our requirements are:
- Draw a representation of any of the following animals that are showcased in the program: Bat, Bird, Bumblebee, Cat, Elephant, Firebird, or Swan!
- Any medium can be used, as long as the final piece can be scanned on a copier into the computer, I.e. markers, crayons, oils, colored pencils, etc.
- Drawings must be made on an 8.5” x 11” piece of paper.
*By submitting their artwork, students are giving the NJSO permission to publicly display their pieces of work. The submissions will be used for performance and promotional purposes for the Spring 2018 NJSO education concerts.

NEW JERSEY SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA CHAMBER PLAYERS
With nearly 70 years of experience creating interactive concerts for young audiences, the NJSO offers different concert programs in a number of convenient venues each season. We are thrilled to bring students and teachers of Neptune a special chamber music performance that will feature music and storytelling. Featuring a much more intimate setting for students to experience a combination of timeless music and classic stories told in a unique way, this is a perfect performance for grades K–6!
It was wonderful seeing [our students] so happy and engaged, listening attentively to classical music . . . We look forward to returning next season!
