Principal / Assistant Principal Bass
Auditions for Principal and Assistant Principal Bass will be held March 3–6, 2019 with finals held on March 5 and/or 6, 2019.
This is a permanent position beginning at the earliest mutually agreed starting time. Auditions will take place at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC) 1 Center Street, Newark, NJ.
Candidates selected for a trial with the NJSO must be available for two of the trial weeks as follows: 3/19–3/24, 4/3–4/7, 4/23–4/28, 5/15–5/19, 6/4–6/9.

Please mail completed application form, resume, and $100 deposit check (payable to the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra) to the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra, Attn: Cassandra Mueller, Audition Coordinator, 60 Park Place, Suite 900, Newark, NJ 07102. Your application, resume and deposit check must be postmarked no later than January 18, 2019.
All résumés will be screened after the résumé deadline date. Following the screening, all applicants will be notified by email of their invitation to attend this audition. Those musicians that the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra will be inviting will be given an assigned audition time only after we have received a deposit check by the above stated deadline. Invited musicians will have their deposit check returned to them at the audition or if a cancellation is made prior to 48 hours before the audition. For those not invited, the $100 deposit will be destroyed following the audition.
To cancel your audition, email [email protected]. If canceling with less than 48 hours’ notice, call or email the Personnel Manager, Adria Benjamin at 917.509.4276. If you fail to appear for the audition without at least 48 hours advance notice, your check will be deposited by the NJSO.
Please note the following:
- Clean copies of music will be provided onstage.
- The preliminary and semi-final rounds will be held behind a screen.
- The Audition Committee reserves the right to dismiss immediately any candidate not meeting the highest professional standards at these auditions.
In the 2018–19 Season, the NJSO offered 29 weeks, including three weeks of vacation, and up to 14 Community Partners Educational services (CP paying a higher rate) with a base salary of $1,361.26 per week. Benefits include paid employee health insurance (contributory spousal, parent/child or family coverage available and contributory dental coverage), life insurance, long-term disability insurance, instrument insurance and pension contribution of 10.9%.
