NJArts.net chats with Randall Goosby about his upcoming performance with the New Jersey Symphony

Jan 2, 2026

After his riveting debut with the New Jersey Symphony during their Centennial season, young virtuoso Randall Goosby is set to make his return to perform with Music Director Xian Zhang and the musicians in a series of performances in New Brunswick, Princeton, Newark and Morristown, January 8–11. Before doing so, he sat down with Courtney Smith of NJArts.net to chat about his upbringing and his career, and to share a little bit about his upcoming performance with the New Jersey Symphony.

... I had such an incredible time with the New Jersey Symphony and Xian, and I’m excited to come back and continue on the journey with them. ... It must’ve been last season when I sort of pulled it out [the Barber Violin Concerto] for the first time and took it on tour with orchestras ... It was due partly to the fact that it’s my mom’s favorite concerto and she said, ‘Hey, you’ve got to play the Barber — it’s been long enough!’ We’re a very Romantically inclined family when it comes to classical music: Barber, Brahms, Tchaikovsky. The kind of ‘heart on your sleeve’ repertoire is right up our alley and has been a long time.
