NJSO presents outdoor summer concerts statewide

NEWARK, NJ (May 31, 2013)—The New Jersey Symphony Orchestra continues its annual tradition of presenting summer concerts in outdoor venues throughout New Jersey. The Orchestra performs selections from Bizet’s   Carmen  , Copland’s  Rodeo  and Bernstein’s West Side Story, alongside favori te tunes from Gershwin and movie classics like John Williams’ Raiders March and more. Patriotic tributes include “America the Beautiful” and Sousa’s “The Stars and St ripes Forever,” and the Orchestra honors servicemen and women with the moving Armed Forces Salute. These summer concerts reflect the NJSO’s commitment to bringing live symphonic music to communities throughout the state.

Concerts take place on the following dates:

  • Thursday, June 20, at Pier A Park in Hoboken (7:30 pm) – Free concert
  • Sunday, June 23, Giralda Farms in Madison (6 pm)
  • Friday, June 28, at Essex County Branch Brook Park in Newark (7:30 pm) – Free concert with fireworks
  • Saturday, June 29, at Goffle Brook Park in Hawthorne (8 pm) – Free concert
  • Sunday, June 30, at Mercer County Park in West Windsor (7:30 pm) – Free concert with fireworks

MUSIC AT MOORLAND
Thursday, June 27, at 7:30 pm

The NJSO also returns to Music at Moorland, an annual evening of open-air dining, classical music and spectacular fireworks on the lawn of Moorland Farms in Far Hills.

The evening’s selections will include Dvořák’s  Carnival Overture  and Slavonic Dance Op. 72, No. 2; Richard Rodgers’ The King and I Overture, Harold Arlen’s “Over the Rainbow” and patriotic favor ites including Irving Berlin’s “God Bless America,” Carmen Dragon’s “America the Beautiful” and John Philip Sousa’s “The Stars and Stripes Forever.” Cellist Christine Lamprea joins Gemma New and the Orchestra for the third movement of Dvořák’s Cello Concerto.
