The New Jersey Symphony ends the 2024–25 season on a ‘creative high note’

June 10, 2025

The New Jersey Symphony wrapped up its 2024–25 mainstage season with four performances of Rachmaninoff’s Second Piano Concerto, featuring guest favorite Conrad Tao, and Shostakovich’s Fifth Symphony in Morristown, Princeton, Red Bank and Newark from June 4–7. James C. Taylor of NJ Advance Media reviewed the final concert of the season at NJPAC.

The New Jersey Symphony’s final concert of their 102nd season contained one of their best performances in years ... Sunday’s program at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark marked the end of Xian Zhang’s ninth year as music director of the NJS. It was a great example of how she has elevated the level of music-making here in the Garden State.

Courtney Smith of NJArts.net also reviewed the NJPAC performance on Sunday afternoon.

The concert showed what the Symphony does best: performing challenging but accessible works in a way that feels intimate, like one big family. Dynamite guest stars like Tao are the icing on the cake.
