The New Jersey Symphony gives a soulful tribute to Aretha Franklin

Feb 20, 2024

Capathia Jenkins and Ryan Shaw joined conductor Lucas Waldin and the New Jersey Symphony to pay homage to Aretha Franklin and her greatest hits with four performances at Morristown, Red Bank, Newark and New Brunswick. James C. Taylor of NJ Advance Media would review the performance at NJPAC.

An eclectic mash-up of pop, gospel and Motown, the well-attended concert at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center drew a well-dressed crowd Saturday night in Newark that relished the sounds of the “Queen of Soul” as well as her 1960s and ‘70s contemporaries and collaborators.
