Lenox and Williamstown, MA

  • See Jacques Lacombe conduct Ravel, Saint-Saëns, Prokofiev and Orff at Tanglewood
  • Visit Edith Wharton’s home, The Mount
  • Tour the newly-expanded Clark Art Institute

Join fellow NJSO patrons as we travel to the picturesque Berkshires to see Jacques Lacombe conduct the opening weekend performances at the Tanglewood Music Festival. Lacombe will conduct the Boston Symphony Orchestra at the Opening Night performance of Ravel’s Alborada del gracioso, Prokofiev’s Symphony No. 5 and Saint-Saëns’ Violin Concerto No. 3, featuring Joshua Bell. On the second night, Seiji Ozawa joins Jacques for Beethoven’s Egmont Overture and Lacombe conducts Ravel’s Daphnis and Chloé Suite No. 2 and Orff’s Carmina Burana.

On Friday, we will visit The Mount, Edith Wharton’s lovely self-designed home and gardens. The Mount is where she wrote some of her most famous novels, including Ethan Frome and The House of Mirth. There are three acres of beautiful formal gardens, which include a rustic Italianate walled garden, a formal French flower garden and a limewalk lined with linden trees.

On Saturday, we will visit The Clark Art Institute. The Clark houses exceptional European and American paintings and sculpture, extensive collections of master prints and drawings, English silver and early photography. One of the most beloved and respected art museums in the world, it is known for its intimate galleries and stunning natural environment. In 2014, the Clark celebrated its grand re-opening and unveiled the new, architecturally stunning Clark Center, which was designed by Tadao Ando and includes a one-acre reflecting pool.
