Community Partners Library Assistant
The Education & Community Engagement (ECE) Department of the New Jersey Symphony seeks a highly motivated intern to lend support to the Community Partners program as a Library Assistant. The intern will be a dependable and detail-oriented freelance library assistant to support our music library operations, assisting in the preparation, maintenance, and organization of both physical and digital music materials and ensuring streamlined access for our musicians and library staff.
Status: Part-time
Reports to: Gretta Mulchandani, Assistant Director of Operations & Community Engagement
Hours: Up to 10 hours/week, combination of in-person and remote work
Stipend: $18/hour

Key Responsibilities
- Musician folder management: Assemble and clean up individual musician folders ahead of rehearsals and performances
- Music processing: Sort and organize newly received music, and return music to shelves after use
- Binder maintenance: Disassemble outdated binders and refile prints in long-term shelving
- Digital music support: Upload, tag, and organize PDF scores and parts within our tablet/digital system
- Additional duties: Carry out other library-related tasks as assigned to support smooth operations
Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program at a higher-education institution.
- Prior experience handling music libraries or similar archival work is strongly preferred.
- Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Comfortable working with both physical and digital formats (folders, scores, PDFs).
- Reliable, self-motivated, and able to fulfill a consistent weekly schedule.
- Ability to receive assignments independently and deliver high-quality results.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Familiarity with basic digital file management and tablets is a plus.
- Experience in the performing arts is a plus.
- Able to commute to Newark, NJ; parking validation provided.

Other Info
- Must be able to physically work in our Newark, NJ, office at least one day a week.
- Must be at least 18 years old and available on weekends to assist with concerts as needed.
- Must be authorized to work in the US without sponsorship.
- Must be able to work evenings, weekends and some holidays; and provide own transportation to multiple New Jersey Symphony performance venues.
Interns will receive:
- Compensation of $18/hour; timesheets to be submitted for biweekly payroll.
