EMERGE Part 3: An NJSO Concert Film

Superstar pianist Daniil Trifonov brings wit, fire, sarcasm and daring to Shostakovich’s First Piano Concerto, with newly named NJSO Assistant Principal Trumpet Anderson Romero sharing the solo spotlight and Music Director Xian Zhang at the podium. Beethoven’s tour-de-force Fourth Symphony, full of grace, passion and vigor, rounds out the program.

This concert was recorded live and filmed on RED cinema cameras at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark, NJ, on March 11, 2021. This film features the NJSO and Daniil Trifonov on stage and riveting images inspired by and filmed in New Jersey. This final installment of the EMERGE film trilogy broadens the visual canvas beyond Newark and urban landscapes, going as far as Cape May, with a focus on nature and wildlife. EMERGE Part 2: An NJSO Concert Film

NJSO favorite Inon Barnatan joins forces with Music Director Xian Zhang and the NJSO for Florence Price’s under-recognized Piano Concerto—a work full of glorious melodies, rhythmic dance figures and keyboard pyrotechnics—performed alongside one of Mozart’s final symphonies, a personal favorite of Xian.

This concert was recorded live and filmed on RED cinema cameras at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark, NJ, on February 10, 2021. The film features the NJSO and Inon Barnatan on stage, dance performances by Cori Barnes and M.A. Taylor and behind-the-scenes images of NJSO musicians. Presented in black-and-white 4K Ultra HD.


EMERGE Part 1: An NJSO Concert Film

Woodwind and brass instruments return to the NJSO stage in Schumann’s poignant and powerful Fourth Symphony, paired with the East Coast premiere of a new work from multitalented composer and performer Nokuthula Ngwenyama. Simone Dinnerstein, whose Bach performances are full of life, brings vitality and grace to the composer’s F-Minor Keyboard Concerto.

Arising from a pandemic shutdown, world-renowned conductor and star music director Xian Zhang leads the illustrious New Jersey Symphony Orchestra in a concert film directed by award-winning filmmaker Yuri Alves, who expands the magnetic soundscape with evocative visual meditations on a world in turmoil.
