Star-Ledger features Select-a-Seat

The Star-Ledger chatted with NJSO Vice President of Marketing & External Affairs Catherine Levin about the Orchestra’s new Select-a-Seat online ticket-buying feature:

The New Jersey Symphony Orchestra has a message for its single ticket buyers: Be as picky as you want.

In time for Friday’s season-opening concert at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark, the NJSO has rolled out a new online ticketing program that allows purchasers to view seating maps showing available seats and ones that have already been purchased.

“As a consumer, I like the options of looking at everything that is available and choosing the seat that works for me,” vice president of marketing Catherine Levin said.

For example, Levin said when a pianist is performing, many patrons want to be able to sit where they can see the musician's hands.

“Or some people want to sit up high to see the trombones,” she said. “Now you can get in there and see where you can sit.”

Buyers can still select “best available” for the entire venue and by price level, Levin said. And they can still call the orchestra and get personal assistance ...

“Customers are so different. What one wants, the next one wants nothing to do with,” Levin said. “And the more we understand our customers are not homogenous, that they have different needs and wants, the better we can serve them.”
